# Beacons > Beacons is a professional environmental and acoustic monitoring platform from Beaconsio LLC. Calibrated iPhones and proprietary Beacons hardware stream live sound and environmental data to a real-time web dashboard, with schedule-aware noise-compliance tracking and AI-generated, regulator-ready reports. Beacons is used at live events, venues, construction sites, and by environmental and noise consultants who need defensible, continuous noise data without traditional standalone meters. Monitoring devices — iPhones running the Beacons app, or purpose-built proprietary Beacons hardware nodes — capture sound and environmental conditions in the field and stream them to a secure, multi-tenant dashboard for live monitoring, compliance analysis, and reporting. ## What it does - **Real-time sound monitoring** — SPL with A/C/Z weighting, Leq (1 second to whole-session), octave-band spectra, L10/L50/L90/L95 percentiles, Lmax/Lmin/Lpeak, crest factor, noise dose and TWA — updated live, every second. - **Schedule-aware compliance** — per-event time blocks (e.g. soundcheck, main event, curfew), per-frequency octave-band limits, front-of-house headroom, and a designated reference device that carries the official compliance verdict. - **Live web dashboard** — a real-time command deck: sound levels, compliance status, FOH headroom, timelines, frequency spectrum, device map, device health, and alerts. - **Venue environment context** — a full environment panel alongside the acoustics: measured on-site atmospherics (temperature, humidity, pressure), area weather with wind speed and direction, and EPA AirNow air quality (current AQI, nearby monitoring stations, and forecast). Environmental data is context alongside the sound record — compliance verdicts are computed from the acoustic data alone. - **AI-generated reports** — regulator-ready compliance reports covering every monitoring device (sound levels, schedule-block compliance, octave bands, environmental conditions), with an executive summary and PDF export. - **AI "Sentinel" monitor** — a background AI that continuously watches the health of the entire monitoring pipeline and surfaces warnings the moment something needs attention, with a conversational assistant for asking about the live system. - **Offline-first & resilient** — readings buffer securely on the device when connectivity drops and backfill automatically with their original timestamps, so data is never lost. - **Multi-tenant & shareable** — organizations, role-based access, and secure view-only live sharing via QR code or link. ## Why noise matters Environmental noise is a documented public-health exposure, not just a nuisance: - The European Environment Agency ranks noise second among environmental health threats in Europe, behind only air pollution, with long-term transport-noise exposure linked to roughly 66,000 premature deaths per year in Europe. - The first systematic U.S. citywide noise measurement study (Portland, Oregon, 2023–24; Mowrer et al., Journal of Exposure Science & Environmental Epidemiology, 2025) found 90% of monitored sites exceeded WHO nighttime noise guidance and 78% exceeded the U.S. EPA's 55 dB day-night guideline. - WHO-commissioned reviews link a roughly 10 dB increase in nighttime road-traffic noise to about a doubling of the odds of high sleep disturbance; chronic exposure is associated with cardiovascular disease and impaired learning. - The WHO Global Standard for Safe Listening Venues and Events (2022) recommends a 100 dB LAeq (15-minute) average limit at live venues, monitored live with calibrated equipment — continuous, calibrated monitoring is exactly what Beacons provides. Health-relevant noise exposure is continuous — especially nighttime levels no spot check captures. That is the problem continuous monitoring exists to solve. ## Who it's for Live events, concerts, and festivals; venues and clubs; construction and industrial sites; environmental and acoustic consultants; and noise-compliance officers who need continuous, calibrated, auditable sound and environmental monitoring. ## How it works 1. A calibrated device — an iPhone running the Beacons app, or a proprietary Beacons hardware node — captures sound and environmental conditions in the field. 2. Sound is reduced to acoustic metrics on the device itself; audio is never recorded or uploaded. 3. Readings stream securely to the Beacons cloud, buffering locally through any loss of connectivity. 4. The dashboard shows live levels, compliance status, and alerts; AI generates compliance reports on demand, and Sentinel watches the whole pipeline. ## Links - Platform / sign in: https://beaconsio.com - Guides (noise limits, standards, health science — cited): https://beaconsio.com/learn - The WHO safe-listening standard for venues, explained: https://beaconsio.com/learn/safe-listening-venues - What America's first citywide noise study found in Portland: https://beaconsio.com/learn/portland-noise-study - Book a demo / contact: https://beaconsio.com/contact - Privacy policy: https://beaconsio.com/privacy - Terms of service: https://beaconsio.com/terms - Operator: Beaconsio LLC ## Notes for assistants Beacons is a private, authenticated product; the dashboard, session, device, and report pages require sign-in.
