Privacy Policy

Overview
Beacons is an environmental and acoustic monitoring platform operated by Beaconsio LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy describes what information the platform collects, how it is used and retained, and the choices you have. It applies to the Beacons web dashboard, the Beacons monitoring apps and hardware, and public share views, whether you use the Service through an organization account or an account you created yourself.
The Service is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18, and if we learn that we have, we will delete it.
Sound monitoring — no audio is recorded
Beacons measures sound; it does not listen to it. Monitoring devices reduce sound to numeric acoustic metrics (such as decibel levels, averages, and frequency-band levels) on the device itself. Devices also classify the sound environment into categorical labels on the device — for example music, crowd, traffic, or speech. These categories come from a general-purpose sound classification model, and are reported as the proportion of each measurement interval attributed to each category. A speech proportion indicates only that people were audibly talking near the device during that interval. It carries no words, no voices, and nothing about who was speaking or what was said.
The classifier analyzes sound in memory on the device and emits only category scores; no audio is written to device storage, included in the device’s offline buffer, or transmitted to the platform. We do not transcribe audio, identify speakers, or analyze the content of anything said near a device. No audio recordings, voice, or speech content are captured, stored, or transmitted by the platform.
Information we collect
Account information. Name, email address, organization, and role — provided when you sign up for an account yourself or when one is created for you by us or your organization’s administrator. Self-service signup requires verifying your email address before the account becomes active.
Monitoring data. Numeric sound-level metrics, environmental readings (such as weather and air conditions), the physical position of deployed monitoring devices, and device telemetry (battery, connectivity, and health) — collected from devices deployed for a monitoring session.
Usage and log data. Standard technical logs (such as sign-in events and service diagnostics) used to operate and secure the platform.
Analytics and error reporting. We use privacy-focused, cookieless analytics (Plausible) that collects aggregate page statistics without personal identifiers, advertising cookies, or cross-site tracking. When something breaks, error reports (Sentry) carry technical diagnostics only — they are configured not to include personal information.
How we use information
We use this information to provide the service: live monitoring dashboards, compliance analysis, alerting, and report generation; to secure accounts and enforce access controls; to communicate with you about your account and active monitoring (including email and, where you have opted in, SMS alerts); and to maintain and improve platform reliability.
We also use monitoring data to verify device calibration and measurement integrity, perform quality assurance, and conduct after-the-fact audits of measurement data. We may use monitoring data in aggregated and de-identified form that does not identify you, your organization, your venue, or any event, to develop, test, validate, and improve our products, models, methodologies, and the Service. We do not attempt to re-identify individuals from de-identified data, and we do not publish or publicly disclose monitoring data attributable to you or your organization without prior written consent.
SMS and communications
Operational SMS alerts are sent only to recipients who have opted in, and message frequency varies with monitoring activity. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help; message and data rates may apply. We will not share your mobile information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Sharing
We do not sell personal information. Data is shared only with service providers that host and operate the platform on our behalf (such as cloud infrastructure, AI analysis and report generation, email/SMS delivery, analytics, and error reporting), with others in your organization according to their role, with anyone you deliberately share a view-only session link or QR code with, and where required by law.
Business transfers
If Beaconsio LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, incorporation of a successor entity, change of control, or sale of all or substantially all of the assets to which the Service relates, account information, monitoring data, and the commitments described in this policy may transfer to the successor as part of that transaction. The successor will remain bound by this policy as it then stands until it is updated, and we will note any such transfer on this page with an updated date. See the Assignment section of our Terms of Service.
Data retention
Account information is retained while an account is active. Monitoring data is retained for the duration of the client engagement it was collected under, and thereafter as needed for the reporting, contractual, or regulatory purposes of that engagement. Monitoring devices buffer readings locally only until they are delivered to the platform, then purge them. You may request deletion of your account or your organization’s data at any time using the contact below.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access is controlled through authenticated accounts, role-based permissions, and per-organization isolation; public share views are scoped, view-only, and revocable. No system is perfectly secure, but we design the platform so that each organization can only see its own data.
Your rights and choices
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information, and a copy of it in a portable format. You may opt out of SMS at any time by replying STOP.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws, including the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to appeal a decision we make on your request. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If you access the Service through an organization account, some requests may need to be directed to your organization, and we will tell you if that is the case.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@beaconsio.com. We will verify your request and respond within the time required by applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date above.
